Delta Loop MC Ride, May 5, 2007

Greg had come up with this run idea by way of subscribing to a newsletter that lists upcoming events in the Delta throughout the year. This event is known as the “Delta Loop”, and this is the 10th year. It is promoted by local Delta businesses.

Ron, Patty and Greg were to meet at 10:30AM Sunday for the ride. Just prior to departure, Ron received a call from Jamel. Ron had met Jamel, and his roommate Kiki at Bistro 33 the night before, and invited them to ride on Saturday. They said they wanted to ride with us, and we all left the “33” just before 3:00am.

Ron called Jamel the next morning, and he said they were running about 10 minutes late, but wanted to ride and could they catch up somewhere? Ron said they would wait for them at the Freeport Inn in Freeport.

Talking again about 11:00am they were still trying to get off center, and it was agreed to wait a little longer. We waited until 11:30am to leave. At that time Greg left a map Jamel and Kiki with the bartender and Ron left a message on Jamel’s cell phone saying where we could all meet down in the Delta

We headed down the River Road being greeted by horrendous wind gusts! Along the way, there were many cell phone calls between Ron and Jamel. To cut the story short, we finally met up about three or four hours later at the Happy Harbor Resort on the San Joaquin River in the Delta

Everyone finally got hooked up

The bar had an outdoor BBQ going, and we all ate there having Chicken, Ribs and Tri Tip with corn on the cob, and potato salad. The BBQ was excellent

Happy Harbor had a Blues Band playing calling themselves “Mo Jo Madness”, which turned out to be a fun band

While standing around drinking beer in the streets, we were personally entertained by a very good harmonica player with the band

Sharing his music with a passing taxi

A young reporter came by from a new newspaper being published in the Delta. Greg graciously granted her an interview, and got a plug in for “SleazyTours.com”, which is a new web site Greg is working on for all of us. We could become famous now!

Kiki and Jamel were finally able to get some lunch.

Everyone spent the entire afternoon there and I don’t think there were many moments in between belly-rolling laughs. Everyone was so glad to have met Jamel and Kiki. They are really too much fun, and very good riders.

Kiki rides a Harley, and being 6’10” tall, he’s the kind of guy you can “look up” to

Jamel has a sweet Honda. He knows it’s somewhere between a 1100 to 1800(cc). Both are cool bikes, and it was much fun to ride together. The best part was getting to know these guys. I hope you all get to meet them soon. As I write this it is Sunday morning and my guts are hurting from all the laughing throughout yesterday. That’s no exaggeration!

As the sun was sinking and winds still strong, all four bikes headed on through the Delta Loop for our next stop at Tony’s in Walnut Grove

A quick beer for Cinco De Mayo and we’re on our way to Al the Wops in the town of Locke

More fun going on here as everyone tried without success, to throwing dollar bills in the air, attempting to stick then on the ceiling

Kind of a dumb athletic event, but while here, we met another nice couple that rides, and they’ve been added to the Sleazy Tour web ring. Welcome to Bob and Ann from Stockton. Glad to meet ya! Look forward to seeing them on the road soon. It’s suggested they bring a back-brace with them to support all the laughing they’ll have to endure

On our way now – we stop in Elk Grove for fuel. It’s the last leg of this ride. Maybe it’s 9:00pm or so and the next plan is devised (cause there never was one in the first place), and some are going home and some are going to eat, but everyone agrees to meet at The Torch Club right away.

We finished gassing up - wiped a sheet full bugs from our windshields, glasses, face masks and bodies – got leathered up and headed due north at the speed limit in a fine looking formation of beautiful machines

Coming into Sac, Greg stays northbound I-5 into town. Jamel & Kiki east on B-80, Ron & Patty split off to I-80 to temporary destinations

Well, some faded and flaked (Ron & Patty). Some might have other ideas (Kiki & Jamel didn't make it)? I’d put my money on it, that Greg was the only one to complete today’s adventure as discussed. However, he was meeting Mark, a close friend of his that Ron & Patty met as well, and therefore was assured he’d be in good company either way. UPDATE SUNDAY: Greg didn't make it either, ha ha ha......

Thanks to all that did the “Delta Loop” ride. It’s one for the books, but may be republished as “The laugh loop ride”. Truly memorable…

We’ll be doing this one again next year!
